Work-Life-Balance means to me: Work-Life Balance is not some ideal state to achieve. We often think that once we create the “perfect balance”, we will finally feel accomplished, serene, and happy. I believe it is much more of a process, in which we cultivate the awareness of what goes on inside of us and around us, so we can better understand what we need to give to ourselves first in order to show up for the things that are meaningful to us. It’s about listening to ourselves and taking small steps towards becoming the person we’d like to be in our relationships, our workplace, and our day-to-day life. It doesn’t mean doing things perfectly, but committing to trying to do things a little better than we did the day before. It means being adaptable, because our needs, circumstances, and external demands might change frequently or unexpectedly. It also means practicing self-compassion throughout this process and knowing when it’s time to get out of our heads and into our bodies. To me, Work-Life Balance is a practice.
